The same way the engineers sort out how much power is required from turbines to keep improbably heavy airplanes in the sky. They take their best shot, using sophisticated models. And then they double it. At least. Just to be sure. Many jet engines are so powerful they could propel a square block off a runway. Imagine you are trying to project demand for your product or service, during your busy season. Would you rather carry some excess inventory or stock out? If you are projecting your cash needs in advance of a fundraising round, would you rather ask for too much or too little? When planning a business trip, do you expect the customs agents and baggage handlers and pilots and meteorologists to stick to your itinerary, or not. The concept of lean has gone too far. Fresh deal key to plant‘s future: Pupeza
Pupeza was enthusing about the Superior Packaging project as he and other CEP officials prepare to hammer out a new collective agreement next week with prospective new owner, veteran Montreal forestry executive Jay Gurandiano. Pupeza said Gurandiano needs a fresh collective agreement in hand before he can approach potential investors about his $50-million plan to retrofit AbitibiBowater‘s Fort William newsprint plant, which stopped production in May and is now officially closed. Talks between CEP and Gurandiano, which may take place in Thunder Bay, are set for Dec. 18-20. Pupeza said Gurandiano is likely looking for a long-term agreement. In general, Pupeza said, contracts at corrugated plants provide less pay than those at newsprint mills.

Amazing Case of Loan and Mortgage Fraud
Loan and mortgage fraud is becoming big business across the country and crooks continue to find new ways to take advantage of almost anyone and steal any identity. Eyewitness News has uncovered an amazing case that involves a victimized grandmother in San Diego, a failing Los Angeles loan company and a Las Vegas man who doesn't care who he hurts. This scheme shows the terrible power of shifty loan sharks and identity thieves. They will stop at nothing to fabricate documents and take advantage of Clark County's legal loopholes. It's a case that took Eyewitness News to the coast of California but it begins at a run-down house in east Las Vegas. "I'm struggling right now," said Paul Mangione who admits he's on a slippery slope toward self-destruction.
Who backs whom?
Local Democrats are divided among the three remaining candidates for their party. Take the Rowden household. Jay Rowden is the chairman of the local party. His wife, Diane, is a county commissioner. He supports John Edwards. "I like his stand as far as corporate influence in this country," he said. "I see that as the root of a lot of our evils going on politically." She supports Hillary Clinton. "She's proven herself in New York," she said. "Words are easy to come by, but proven action is what we need." So what's it like at the dinner table each night? Obviously, "we're kind of split," Jay Rowden said. "We just accept it and move on. We don't talk about it a lot, which is usually the best way to deal with it." It's not that Trinque or other local elected officials try to remain neutral.
