That includes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The African-American organization known as 100 Black Men of America. Also, our local Nevada partners in this: Impacto; the African- American Democratic Leadership Council; and, of course, the College of Southern Nevada. We have told the members of our vast studio audience here tonight that we cannot allow applause or any outbursts following the candidates' responses. We will open with a Q&A format, allowing for 90-second answers, lights will alert the candidates to the end of time; some 30-second answers; and then follow-ups at the moderator's discretion. Finally, for tonight's debate of the top three Democratic contenders, I am joined by my partner Tim Russert, our Washington bureau chief and of course moderator of “Meet the Press" on NBC; and Natalie Morales of “Today" on NBC, who will be handling some of the thousands of e-mail questions we've received over the past few days directed to the candidates.
M&S's tarnished glow a warning for all
Yet a central plank of his recovery plan was to capture the widest possible customer base - hence the T-shirts priced from £4 to £35. Even food, where Marks ought be running rings round its rivals during the Christmas period, has turned ex-growth. Rose is right to argue for an interest rate cut, but he was short on detail as to how Marks will weather the storm if the three-quarter point reduction he is asking for doesn't materialise. Having already turned the screw on suppliers and cut costs, he is running out of easy options. There is little doubt that he has done an excellent job in luring back shoppers and Rose is right to look overseas for the next opportunities. Even so, unless he wants to end up like many other ex-M&S bosses, Rose must find a way to keep the wheels of the UK business turning, downturn or not.
Lowe guilty of ignoring financial realities of relegation he presided ...
The following is from a Daily Echo comment story which appears in today's newspaper ... EIGHTEEN months down the line, and the words "Rupert' and Lowe' are still guaranteed to spark furious debate among Saints fans. Saints can lose 5-0 away and the Daily Echo website can attract 50 or 60 comments; Lowe speaks publicly and there's almost 100. Sadly, that says a lot about the situation at St Mary's in recent years. The off-field politics of the club have deflected attention away from events on the pitch. Fans know as much about the current and former directors as they know about George Burley's squad. Lowe, in his radio interview the other night, was deflecting attention away from himself by naming individuals who should be answering tough questions.

It reveals it has sold mortgages worth a record 10.7bn in the first half of 2007, up 47% on the same period a year before. This is equivalent to 19% of all new mortgage policies sold over that time, making it the market leader in the UK. Interim profits are up 0.7% to 296m and the firm pledges to boost its dividend - its payment to shareholders - by 30%. It notes that "sharp increases" in borrowing rates in the money markets are likely to make life more difficult and that changes in "interest rate and credit risk environments" will influence the size of its annual profits. But it says its assets have grown 28% to 113bn, its new residential lending remains "low risk" and that sales growth from its core mortgage business remains good. .
